Last weekend Leipert Motorsport started to Shanghai International Circuit in China to battle in the next round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Series.
The PRO-category car #2, driven by Ben Gersekowski/Rory Collingbourne, already crashed in private practice. A frame damage made further participation impossible. The Pro-AM car #33 went again on track with Mikko Eskelinen/Maxx Ebenal, who celebrated two podium finishes.
Race 1 started at 2.40pm local time at Saturday under light rain. Huracán #33 with Maxx Ebenal at the wheel started from the 4th row of the grid. The Canadian impressed with a strong performance and handed over the wheel as the leader of the ProAm class to Mikko Eskelinen. After some hard and amazing duels with the Pro-driver of the second placed ProAm car Mikko lost his place and crossed the finish line on P2 ProAm, P7 overall.
Race 2: By 11.40am the race started on Sunday under Safety Car conditions because of heavy rain. #33 starting driver, the Finn Mikko Eskelinen, started from the 5th row of the grid and had a perfect stint. He handed over the wheel to Maxx Ebenal. A few minutes after driver change another car crashed and the safety car came out. Unfortunately, the crash was so heavy that the race ended under safety car conditions. So Maxx Ebenal had no chance to overtake other cars and crossed the finish line on P3 in ProAM-class. Currently #2 with Eskelinen/Ebenal is on P2 of the ProAm Championship, the victory of the championship still within reach.
Team manager Ingo Leipert: The Shanghai weekend went well for Mikko and Maxx with two podiums. Rory and Ben had to be content with watching the race. The two Huracan will be shipped now to Italy, where the World Final takes place in Imola at the end of November. Before the World Final we have to repair or replace the #2 car. We are looking forward to the challenge with the four cars and 8 drivers of both series (Europe and Asia).
The next race with the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo cars will be the 24h race in Texas on the “Circuit of the Americas”.
