The GT4 European Series race weekend at the Hungaroring became a weather adventure for MOTUL supported German Team Leipert Motorsport. First it was hot, then it was pouring rain - In the end the driver duo Marcus Paverud and Ivan Pareras scored a result in the top 10 rankings and further championship points.

Budapest, Hungary - Sunday, 02.09.2018

The Hungaroring was a very tough weekend. But not the fourteen corners made the weekend difficult for the teams and drivers. Rather, it was the weather god who could not decide between heat and thunderstorms with heavy downpours.

The battle for the best starting position

On Friday the temperatures were still over 25 degrees. The drivers were struggling with nearly doubling the temperature in the cockpit, but did a very good job on the 4.381 km long race course. The two Leipert Motorsport drivers Marcus Paverud and Ivan Pareras used the trainings to study the track. At the qualifying in the evening Marcus Paverud achieved starting position 15 in the Silver Cup for race one. Ivan Pareras was able to finish eighth overall and P8 in the Silver Cup, a top 10 result.

Heavy rain caused the first race to be stopped.

Saturday afternoon the motto was: "Drivers, start your engines!" - Marcus Paverud had a good start in high-summer temperatures, where he was able to make up some positions. Also the first safety car phase didn't let him get confused and so he fought his way up to 22nd place. But both, the teams and the drivers, had not taken into calculation the rain god, who opened his floodgates at the middle of the race distance. There was chaos in the pit lane, because in addition to the usual driver change, the tyres now also had to be changed. Ivan Pareras has taken over the wheel of the Mercedes-AMG GT4. Due to the heavy rain and the thunderstorm, the race director sent the safety car on the track. After the storm did not stop, the race was stopped before the scheduled time. Leipert Motorsport therefore had no more chance to catch up. On P18 overall the AMG #2 crossed the finish-line. In the Silver Cup standings the driver duo of the AMG GT4 #2 scored 10th overall and championship points.

Failure in race two prevents ranking points

Eighth on the grid on Sunday, Ivan Pareras had a starting position in the front rows, which promised already championship points. Still in the starting line-up, the first raindrops were fallen and the team decided to start. Still in the starting line-up, the first raindrops  and it was decided to contest the race with rain tyres. Pareras could make up places in the first lap and was already on P2 in the fourth lap. In the further part of the race he fought exciting duels and after opening the pit stop window he was able to hand over the AMG #2 to Paverud in third place. Marcus, however, had to take on a drive-through penalty four laps after the driver change for disregarding the track limits and thus dropped several places. One lap later, the disaster started when the #2 was touched by a competitor in the front left. The AMG GT4 spun and crashed hard. The gate on the pit wall was damaged during the collision, so the race was stopped shortly afterwards.

In only two weeks the team will start at the GT4 European Series season finale at the Nürburgring (14.-16.09.2018).
