Nürburg, Germany – Monday, 17.09.2018
Last weekend Leipert Motorsport started in two racing series at the Nürburgring: While the GT4 European Series Final saw two chaotic races, the North Rhine-Westphalian team scored a podium finish and further points in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe.
#26 Lagrange and Schandorff celebrated podium finish in the second Super Trofeo race
The Lamborghini Super Trofeo was part of the Blancpain Sprint Series at the Nürburgring this weekend. The traditional circuit was a real challenge. The qualifying times were close together. The Leipert Motorsport PRO duo Niels Lagrange / Frederik Schandorff took 8th and 6th place on the grid (15th and 9th place overall).
Starting driver Lagrange was able to hold his position well at the beginning of Saturday's race. He worked hard to get to the front and handed over eighth overall to his team mate Schandorff, who although he took seventh place, but later lost a few places due to a brake problem. Tenth overall was the first result of the weekend.
It became exciting on Sunday, when Schandorff kept his rivals in line and later handed over to Lagrange, who let it rock: He battled his way up to third place. The podium success was perfect and the duo won another trophy this season.
Championship points for the Lamborghini duo Jasper and Lefterov on #2
John-Louis Jasper and Pavel Lefterov hardworkingly earned championship points in the Lamborghini #2. In the first race, the two drivers were able to finish seventh in the PRO-AM rankings (rank 18 overall), which guaranteed the first points of the weekend.
One day later the driver duo, who started from 18th place, fought their way forward. It was hard for Jasper in the start tumult - but despite everything he could defend his position. After handing over the wheel to team-mate Pavel Lefterov, a few laps later Pavel crossed the finish line with the Lamborghini Huracán in 13th place overall. In the PRO-AM ranking the #2 reached fifth place, with which the German team Leipert Motorsport, supported by MOTUL, could score further championship points on its success account.
#4 Umbrarescu und Schjerpen in the Top-5
Also the third Leipert Motorsport Lamborghini celebrated a successful weekend at the Nürburgring.
Razvan Umbrarescu secured sixth place in the AM classification for the first race. While he still struggled a bit at the start, team mate Aleksander saved sixth place at the end when the #4 crossed the finish line.
On Sunday, however, it was starting driver Schjerpen who started from second place and had to let some of his rivals pass. In the end, the duo reached fifth place in the AM classification, which was a successful result for the two Leipert Motorsport drivers in the top 5 rankings.
Chaotic GT4 European Series Final
The two final races of the GT4 European Series were a little confusing. Marcus Paverud and Ivan Pareras took the starting places 13 and 22 for the two races on Friday evening. A respectable performance considering that a total of 44 cars competed.
But the weekend was a tough one: On Saturday Ivan Pareras had to do a drive-through penalty only right after the start. From position 38 the race to catch up started and Marcus Paverud was after the driver change able to cross the finish-line in 24th position with the Mercedes AMG GT4. In the Silver Cup rankings this resulted in 16th place.
On Sunday it became abstruse: After a safety car phase nearly ten pilots had to take the drive-through penalty because everyone was driving in the yellow sector too fast. Gradually the duo fought their way forward. In 17th place #2 crossed the finish line. The top 10 ranks of the Silver Cup were missed by a very narrow margin on rank 12.
No time for a breather for Leipert Motorsport: Already on Monday, the team will travel to Shanghai for the next round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia, to be followed in November by the
Super Trofeo World Final in Vallelunga with their 3 Euopean and 2 Asian Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo cars.
