Also, the season opener of the BELCAR Series was a success for the team from Wegberg, which competes under "WCB Racing Team by Leipert Motorsport" in the BELCAR. During the race weekend in Zolder, Belgium, the two drivers Yannick Hoogaars and Jimmy de Breucker first claimed the podium and finished the second race as class winners. The successful race weekend turned the team into the top of the standings in class 3.
Wegberg, Germany - Monday, 20.05.2019
Last weekend, the BELCAR Series started into the 2019 motorsport season as part of the DTM. At the Belgian Circuit Zolder the action was furious with a record field of 48 cars. But the experienced Leipert Motorsport team, together with the two drivers Yannick Hoogaars (Belgium) and Jimmy de Breucker (Belgium), were unimpressed by the commotion.
Podium finish in first race
The qualifying session was the first step for the two Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO drivers this weekend. Both quickly found the perfect line on the 4.011-kilometre track. With the tenth fastest lap time the duo also secured a solid grid position for the two races.
The start on Saturday was done by Jimmy de Breucker. In the first half of the race he fought his way up to fifth overall (P3 in class). After handing over the wheel to his teammate Yannick Hoogaars, Yannick first had to fight his way through a long-lasting safety car phase. Afterwards, he moved on to eighth overall place, which he later improved to seventh place. P3 in class was safe for the two drivers and the first trophy of the BELCAR season also went into the hands of the two Belgian pilots.
Full scoring - class win and leader of the class after second race
Spectacular catch-up in the second race: On Sunday afternoon after the DTM it went on for the BELCAR Series. Jimmy de Breucker was also the starting driver for the second race of the weekend. The race was started under safety car due to heavy rain. Because it is not mandatory in the BELCAR series at what time the driver change takes place, the team opted on strategic reasons for a quick change. Hoogaars took over the wheel and showed a catch-up race in a class of its own: He continuously worked his way forward and was sixth overall shortly before the end of the race, keeping this position until the end. Thus, he secured the class victory in class 3! The team was happy about this grandiose success and left Zolder also as the class leader.
The German team Leipert Motorsport, supported by MOTUL, was once again able to impressively demonstrate how important professionalism and routine are in motorsport. In two weeks, the guys from Wegberg will start to the second race weekend of the BELCAR Series at the Zolder Superprix (31.05.-02.06.). Simultaneously the team competes with two Mercedes AMG GT4 in the GT4 European Series in Paul Ricard (France).
